Privacy Policy
Effective as of April 21, 2026
This privacy policy applies to the OnTheWay app ("Application") for mobile devices, created by Aaron Culp ("Service Provider"). The Application offers both free and premium subscription-based services. This service is intended for use "AS IS".
Information We Collect
When you use the Application, we collect the following types of information:
Account Information
- Email address (for authentication and account recovery)
- Display name and username
- Profile photo (if you choose to upload one)
Location Data
- Precise location (GPS) when you use the app, to show nearby venues, sort results by distance, and verify check-ins
- Location data is collected only while the app is in use or with your explicit permission for background use
User-Generated Content
- Venue check-ins (which venues you visit and when)
- Reviews and ratings you submit
- Venue contributions (mood tags, wait times, and other venue information you share)
- Favorites and collections you create
Device and Technical Information
- Device type, operating system, and version
- Push notification token (for sending you notifications)
- IP address
- App usage data (pages visited, time spent, features used)
Purchase Information
- Subscription tier and status (managed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store)
- We do not directly collect or store payment card details. All payment processing is handled by Apple, Google, and our payment partner RevenueCat.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and personalize the Application's features, including nearby venue discovery, check-ins, and recommendations
- Send push notifications about flash offers, venue activity, and account updates
- Process and manage your subscription
- Display your profile, reviews, and activity to other users (subject to your privacy settings)
- Improve the Application's performance and develop new features
- Respond to support requests
- Prevent fraud and enforce our terms of service
Privacy Controls
The Application provides the following privacy controls:
- Activity visibility: You can choose whether your username appears in venue activity feeds via Settings
- Location permissions: You can enable or disable location access at any time through your device settings
- Push notifications: You can manage notification preferences within the app or disable them through your device settings
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database platform with encryption at rest and in transit. Sensitive information is encrypted using industry-standard encryption methods. We implement physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect the information we process and maintain.
Data is stored on servers located in the United States. By using the Application, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data in the United States.
Third-Party Services
The Application uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
We may disclose your information:
- As required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process
- When we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others
- With trusted service providers who work on our behalf and have agreed to adhere to this privacy policy
Account Deletion
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time directly within the Application by going to Settings and selecting "Delete Account." This will permanently remove:
- Your profile information and photo
- All check-ins, reviews, and contributions
- Favorites, collections, and preferences
- Notification settings and device tokens
- Subscription records (note: active subscriptions must be cancelled separately through Apple or Google)
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. You may also request account deletion by contacting us at onthewaay@icloud.com.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. After account deletion, all personal data is permanently removed from our systems. Anonymized, aggregated data (such as venue visit counts) may be retained for analytics purposes.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data (available in-app)
- Portability: Request your data in a portable format
- Opt-out: Stop all data collection by uninstalling the Application

Children's Privacy
The Application is not intended for anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will immediately delete it from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at onthewaay@icloud.com.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating this page with the new effective date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Continued use of the Application after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
